Date/ Time
27 May 2021

The three-part Aquaculture Innovation Webinar aims to gather industry experts and researchers from Norway, Israel, and Singapore to share trends and opportunities for aquaculture to play a stronger role in providing food and nutrition in Singapore and the regions. This online series hopes to provide a platform for the exchange of ideas, practices, and foster collaboration to meet rising global demands, break new grounds in aquaculture innovation and explore the frontiers of aquaculture systems for sustainable farming in the spirit of open innovation.

If you are keen on exploring better systems for sustainable farming, such as the use of recirculatory aquaculture system and farming technology for all stages of the process, join us for the Aquaculture Innovation Webinar III on 27 May 2021.

KEYNOTE SESSION
3.00 pm – 3.30 pm (GMT +8)

The objective of sustainable aquaculture is to produce food while ensuring natural resources are not depleted. This can only be achieved when fish production systems that are used have low environmental impact. Hence, new farming technologies and better production systems are needed to ensure intensive aquaculture practices remain sustainable, including improvements for breeding culture, husbandry management, fish monitoring, reduction or water usage, improve waste management, nutrient recycling and cold chain logistics.

RECIRCULATORY AQUACULTURE SYSTEM (RAS)
3.30 pm – 4.15 pm (GMT +8)

The choice of aquaculture system and technology will depend on the resources available for land-based farming. Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) technology can be utilised further inland or at sea, as compared to the traditional Flow-through Systems (FTS) which has to be near the coastline, so facilities that adopt RAS can be nearer to the end-market and logistics hubs. RAS provides opportunities to reduce water usage, and to improve waste management and nutrient recycling for fish farming.

The latest RAS developments that have contributed to an environmentally more sustainable aquaculture sector will be highlighted in this session. In addition to an overview of the RAS developments globally, the audience will be introduced to concrete RAS concepts applicable for high-margin species such as salmon in challenging locations like Singapore and Israel.

NEXT GENERATION AQUAFARMING TECHNOLOGY
4.15 pm – 5.00 pm (GMT +8)

The aquaculture sector is poised to evolve from experience-based to knowledge-based production that is fuelled by farming technology from other high-tech industries such as maritime and offshore oil and gas industries. In addition to more optimised systems for cage farming, feeding and processing, the industry is rapidly adopting digital solutions and data analytics. Industry players will also be able to tap onto insights gained over the last decade to secure the long-term value creation by optimising production, reducing risk and minimising environmental impact. This session will examine frontier technologies including submerged cage systems, artificial intelligence systems and sensors combined with data analytics.
