Hydrometallurgy for Recovery of Critical Metals and Graphite in Lithium-Ion Batteries
Electric Vehicles (EVs) are the up-and-coming alternative to internal combustion engines and the market have been projected to grow at an average of around 50% per year. Due to the rapid development and commercialization of EVs, the lithium-ion battery (LIB) market is growing exponentially along with the metals used in the batteries, such as lithium, cobalt, manganese, nickel. However, one major challenge is that the indispensable battery metals are in extremely short supply, and there is a need for a cost-effective and environmentally friendly way of obtaining these materials. This technology offer is a hydrometallurgical recycling method that can recover 80% of the battery value, which is 10% more efficient than current conventional recycling methods. It can recover over 95% of critical cathode metals such as lithium, nickel, cobalt and manganese in a quality and format for direct reuse and manufacturing of new LIBs. It is able to recover high-value non-metallic components such as graphite for the battery anode as well. In addition, for every 1 kg of spent battery recycled, 2.5 kg of carbon dioxide (CO2) is saved allowing for carbon credits generation as well. The technology owner is seeking partners who are interested to further co-develop or license this technology, especially those in the recycling, mining, commodity trading companies and automotive OEM/battery manufactures. They are also looking for companies with an interest to invest in or build a LIB recycling plant.
Cosmetic & Fragrance Applications of CaproGlu Bioadhesives
Several non-toxic bioadheisives have been originally developed for soft tissues, but is being applied towards cosmetic and fragrance applications. The technology platforms employ proprietary methods of bonding that avoids the pitfalls inherent in other tissue glues based on acrylates and urethanes. Two platform technologies are described: Caproglu Platform is a solvent free, liquid adhesives that bonds within seconds into a rubber foam on wet surfaces and mimics the elasticity of soft tissues. CaproGlu’s unique formulation allows incorporation of hydrophobic pigments, fragrances, and cosmetic compounds in a liquid to adhesive rubber delivery. It contains no acrylates, initiators, or free radical preservatives that cause skin allergies in other bioadhesives. It is free of biopolymers and contains no animal or human derived components. OxyGlue Platfrom is a liquid organic adhesive that bonds upon exposure of oxygen to form antimicrobial coatings and films. It is highly UV absorbing and has strong chromogenic properties. The technology provider is seeking collaboration opportunities with partners who might be interested to use these technology platforms or test-bed these platforms for specific use cases. IP licensing opportunities are also within the technology provider's interests.
Leapfrogging Aquaculture Side-stream Wastage
In the aquaculture industry, tons of inedible components and by-products are being generated and discarded as waste every day. Some of these side-streams, such as skins, bone and scales contain numerous bioactive compounds. The research team found that skin from farmed American bullfrog is highly enriched with type I collagen. Despite being a rich source of collagen, current extraction process and the technological utility of American bullfrog collagen is scant. Using a patent-pending mechano-chemical process, they were able to extract up to 70% (w/w) of type I collagen from the bullfrog skin. Additionally, the process is straightforward, cost-effective, scalable and the extraction time could be shortened by 40% compared to traditional acid solubilisation method. The extracted collagen was found to be highly soluble and stable in its tropocollagen-like state for easy tailoring of its chemistries and properties. As proof-of-concept, the lab has successfully processed bullfrog collagen-based products that are amendable for wound healing and bone grafting applications, thereby demonstrating its utility as a renewable, sustainable, and valuable “waste-to-resource” biomaterial. They hope to bring their entire technological pipeline closer to commercialisation by partnering with potential manufacturers and/or offtakers of the products for non wound healing applications.
Non-invasive Wireless Blood Glucose Monitoring
The latest Singapore National Population Health Survey has reported that the prevalence of diabetes among adults residing in Singapore was 9.5% from 2019 to 2020. Furthermore, nearly a quarter (23.2%) of the diabetics patients are newly diagnosed, and 49.4% of adults with diabetes were previously undiagnosed. Even among patients identified as diabetic, 26% exhibit poor glucose control, which is detrimental to their health. Just as important are the individuals within the population who are suffering from prediabetes. Prediabetes is a reversible condition where individuals suffer from elevated glucose levels but are not considered high enough to be classified as diabetic. 14% of Singaporeans were diagnosed with prediabetes in 2017. Without changes in their lifestyle, a third of these prediabetic individuals are likely to develop Type II diabetes within eight years. The technology owner offers a low-cost, non-invasive Artificial Intelligence (AI) empowered solution that can detect elevated blood glucose and predict the risk of developing prediabetes and diabetes. This innovative solution allows users to monitor their blood glucose levels regularly and identify any adverse trends and patterns so that the at-risk user can adopt early intervention and lifestyle changes to prevent or delay the onset of diabetes. The technology is completing a clinical trial, and the technology owner is looking for more opportunities for licensing the technology to senior care/home care providers, telehealth platform providers, health wearables companies, etc.

Seeking Food-Grade Paper Stiffening and Moisture Resistant Technologies
The tech seeker is a global fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) company that manufactures a wide range of consumer products and is seeking to remove the use of single-use plastic ingredients from its product portfolio as part of its ongoing sustainability programmes. However, the plastic ingredients currently used in the company’s products provide several important functions, including rigidity and moisture resistance. Replacing these plastics with alternatives such as recyclable paper-based materials means that some of these functionalities are lost. In order to overcome these limitations, the client is seeking technologies that can be used to strengthen paper. The tech seeker is a large and well established business with excellent market access. They are searching for companies developing and supplying solutions to meet their current and future product demands. The company is also open to R&D collaborations with companies that have interesting technologies meeting their criteria but may need further help with development.
Seeking Sports Science Expertise in Sports Performance Analysis and Recommendation for Children
Sports provide good physical education and development for children. Participation in sports is closely associated to physical health, mental well-being, and the development of important life skills for the youth including communication, teamwork, decision-making, leadership, perseverance, and time-management. To improve sport performance, it would be important to leverage on sport science, coaching and technology to attract, identify and develop talent to achieve a competency level in a particular sport. Currently, children who sign up for different sports programme are evaluated by the coaches on each session for that particular sport. There is no system in place to analyze and recommend the most suitable sports for each child, so it is difficult for parents, educators, and sports coaches to identify a sport or determine if a child will excel in a sport based on his physical attributes, sport dispositions and strengths. A Singapore-based company who is currently providing sports coaching for children aged 7-12 years old, is seeking technology providers and experts in sports science or physical education to co-create an assessment system for sports performance analysis and recommendation for children.
Seeking Novel Leavening Technology that enables Sodium Reduction
A leading snack company is interested in novel leavening solutions (ingredient and/or process technologies) that enable effective sodium reduction for their baked goods portfolio (savory/salty crackers, sweet cookies). Sodium-based leavening agents (sodium bicarbonate, SAPP etc.) are commonly used in baked goods to deliver the desired product texture and apperance. Finding alternative solutions that can deliver the same great consumer experience without elevating the pH is of interest.
Seeking Immersive Technology Partner for Omnichannel Retail Shopping Experience
With the acceleration of e-commerce and digital technologies post-pandemic, there is a need for closer integration of the physical shopping experience with online digital journey for a seamless omnichannel experience.
